Shivnarine Chanderpaul, popularly known as “The Tiger of Cricket”, is well known for his mental toughness and his unique ability to focus on the game. At the tender age of 19, he made his Test debut for the West Indies. Prior to his Test debut, he had massive success in England with the West Indies Under-19 team.


Former West Indies captain for 14 tests & 16 ODIs, was one of the dreaded players by teams around the world. He was only the second batsman to score a double ton on captaincy debut.

In his career spanning 164 Test matches, Shivnarine amassed 11,867 runs (only 86 runs behind the iconic Brian Lara in the list of all-time run-scorers for West Indies in Tests.), including 30 centuries with top score 203 not out two times, at an impressive average of 51.37 runs per innings in a career that spanned over two decades. Also, most career runs in test cricket when batting at number 5 position with 6,883 runs.


Shivnarine has been involved in a record 771 total number of test partnerships, the most by any batsman. He batted with 83 different partners, which is nine more than any other batsman. He watched 507 dismissals of his partners from the other end when batting, which is also the most by any batsman. This is a true testament to his temperament and determination, As He is the first Indo-Guyanese player to play 100 Test matches.


During his illustrious career, he has batted for more than 1000 minutes in a Test match on four separate occasions without being dismissed in international cricket (batted for a world record 1,513 minutes between dismissals.). holds the record of achieving the most times the feat of scoring fifty runs or more in both the innings of a test and remain unbeaten (or not out) (4 times).


A run scoring machine with an open stance, he has scored 20,988 runs in international cricket. During the pinnacle of his career, in 2008 He received several accolades with the most significant coming in 2008, when he batted for over 1,000 minutes without being dismissed and averaged close to 150 in the Test series against Australia. These awards include the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, Wisden Cricketer of the Year, and WICB West Indies Player of the Year.


He also excelled in 268 One-Day Internationals and scored 8,778 runs, with a best of 150 not out, among his 11 centuries.


In first-class cricket, he has so far played 385 matches, and scored 27,545 runs at an average of over 53 runs per innings. He has 77 centuries and 144 half-centuries so far, with a career-best score of 303 not out against Jamaica.


Overall, in this professional career, he has so far made over 1,000 appearances and scored over 50,000 runs – including more than 100 centuries and over 200 half-centuries at all levels. All these statistics on this southpaw speak volumes of his ability as a tough batsman gifted with grit and determination.

In 2018 rare Cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul was granted an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of the West Indies at St Augustine. On this occasion, Jennifer Nero, Director of CWI, and Tournament Director of ICC Women’s World T20, paid a special tribute to Chanderpaul as “He is an outstanding West Indian, a truly remarkable person who rose to become one of the finest cricketers in West Indies history. A student of the game, a wise head, a strong individual, a leader and fine example to the young people of this region, He has demonstrated by virtue of his commitment and performances that once you are prepared to work hard you will reap reward, respect and global acclaim.”


During 2022 Season Joined Jamaica Tallawahs coaching staff (Head Coach)for CPL 2022 with Curtly Ambrose (Bowling Coach)  also Nomination confirmed for Induction to “Cricket Hall of Fame”.
